i want some new one like bigger ones like 3-5"...i heard their more sturdy...but for now im going to try my best to keep the remainding 2 alive with the skinny niger catfish

yes, they are a lil more sturdier... but still fragile as any other fish... if water params are not good for the individual specie of fish... they are still capable of stressing out/choking leading to death... i stongly suggest you do a lil more research on them, it may help you in the long run/journey/dreams you may have in raising healthy pea's... definitly ph for cichla is normally low... but i have heard from other keepers of cichla keep ph levels around 6.5 and they remain stable & fine... but the softer you can get it... the better! conclusion: better breathing, better colors... and just healthier look'n.... etc.... as far as you putting them in with any other fish that may be bigger than them, i wouldnt.... reason: stress related!!! thats just IMO...:grinyes:
you dont wanna lose another do ya....:grinno::grinno::grinno:
wait until theyre bigger or atleast the same size....:grinyes:

just make sure you do water change & check water params... try to reduce your ph,, levels to or around 6.0... you dont necessary have to put driftwood in.... there is also somethin call a water softner pillow.. i forget exactly what it is called... but you can get it @ petco.. works just the same, but with no tannins in the water like driftwood will give you... you just put it in your filter or sump and let it do its magic... but its your tank and fish so do what meets youre requirements/taste to make it a more stable & healthy enviroment for your pea's...

best of luck & wishes braddah...;)

ok cool gots the best info right now!! :headbang2 thanks bro all others were helpful too, i added a driftwood and now tank before a dead driftwood i had in the tank before...the ph has dropped to 6.0 with one of those ph tablets...and did a water change only 15% so it won't stress them out...i added stress coat and stress zyme into the tank to reduce any stress within the pbass, and i took out the Oxydoras Niger for now to lower any stress that it prolly did to the babies...

what's the temp. I have a friend who raises pbass, and until they hit 6", the temp NEVER falls below 87F. He rarely loss any

ive had them in 86-88 degrees since i first got them...ive had that temp stay like that for a few weeks since i removed the fishes in it beforehand, it was running at that temp. for 3 weeks with no fish but even then i did 10% water changes once a week

I got 23 1"ers from NE and out of those at least 8 of them died (there are 5 that I haven't heard how they are doing). I don't think that it is your ph. My ph is around 7.8 and the 2 that I have are doing good now. I think it is a sensitivity thing.

small cichla are not the easiest to keep.. lower you ph and do a water change.. maybe add some nitrate absorber

sry to hear, they very hard to keep at small sizes, any change in water can kill them, plus they get ick real easy. hope the other ones do ok

well what should i do?!?! some say do water change then one say new water changes can kill them?! OMG...ive been doing weekly one but now i just don't know if i should go with another one tomorrow or not...i think i should let them stay in the same water for 1.5 weeks.....
