OMG That's the very same reason I got into bichirs I saw a ropefish thought it was the coolest thing ever and got a Sen at Petsmart a month later (BTW me+first fish keeper+1" rule bad idear) I've learned since then and as has been said
-Dragon
-Ancient
-Awesome
-BTW I made a poly shirt see http://www.zazzle.com/proud_owner_of_a_polypterus_tshirt-235591762333473870 It's AWESOME (I think)

BTW polypterus bichir katangae and polypterus endlicheri congicus are the same species. Valid name that is being use today is polypterus endlicheri congicus and polypterus bichir katangae is just a synonym.

here are my reason for keeping bichirs.
Cheap
Predatory
Overstockable
Hardy
Comes in more than 10 types of species
not endangered (unlike asian arowanas which make you feel guilty if they die on you)

playing the psp game moster hunter got me in to bichir and arowana ,because they look like dragon

i have a comm of asian aro, a redhook, a pleco and an endi. i love the endi the most because i have to hand feed it...otherwise the naughty redhook will gobble down all the food. i'll give it extra attention to him when i feed. i love the prehistoric look! the fella is a rocker man! :headbang2

rofl id rather have a big tank with 20 arowanas and 50 bichirs  if i was rich

Does anyone here have ever reared a small bichir until they matured or reach young adult size?
I feel more attached to my fishes coz i like to rear them when they are still young (aout 3-4 ")
