Its not "bad". Maybe some people dont like it. But its your hobby not there's. You have to do what you like.

I think its awesome. All the new colors ect...
And that's a philosophy called "being self-centered and destructive". If everyone went by that logic, then eventually a pure strain of any cichlid species would be about as common as a live coelacanth.

It's going to happen when two previously isolated and closely related species come together. There is no avoiding it IME. Without even trying I've produced several hybrid and I can only assume that the same is true for many others.
That said, I see no problem in keeping them and, with ones better judgement, sharing them with others. It is important that the person getting the fish knows exactly what it is, of course, but essentially they're living and it was we who created the conditions for them to spawn by keeping them in the first place. My 2.

I agree. I have a Flowerhorn, many OB Peacocks, and several African cichlids that do not occur in the wild. I have no guilt or shame from it.

yarrr it can be bad if someone intends on distributing the progeny. For the most part fish don't come with pedigrees like, say, a lot of pure-bred dogs so it's hard to ascertain the background/ identity of one. But if they happen to breed in your tank (like I think a convict and my firemouth are doing now) then you might get some cool hybrid. Enjoy them but keep it personal, not for distribution or whatever

Agreed; if you're just keeping them to yourself, then I don't see anything wrong with it.

I have to agree with keeping them to ones-self and not to be sold(without someone knowing what they are getting). I have not created any cross breeds but I have dozens of inbred cons--lol..So inbred that their eyes don't match up side to side. I use them for feeders only and are not for sale. I'm waiting for one to grow buck teeth and play the banjo :ROFL::ROFL:!!!!

I disagree with you......... but my main reason for replying to you is your signature about your teacher telling you not to smoke.... every time someone asks me what I have in my aquarium, they make the same mistake. :nilly:

Oh man, you gotta see Petlands when they get hybrids. Every so often they get fish labelled as Rose Queen Cichlids, bur half of them are mutts and some of them turn out to be Mayan Cichlids... weird stuff.
