Why Is It So Dead In Here?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I completely agree. I have seen a lot of members responding to posts just saying to search providing no information or help. I have even seen staff members who shall remain nameless closing threads saying to search instead.

This topic has been covered countless times. Please search. This is not an area for you to boost your post count.[\Quote]

That particular closure had little to nothing to do with the search function. There are not other recent examples of my having closed a thread solely because it was "searchable". I do not address one on one discussions with a member in the open forum so that is all I have to say regarding.

I posted that thread because I can not find a definite tank size/tank footprint for a pair of retics. I read on a few sites that 75 gallons is big enough and I know that isn't right.

You are correct a 75 gallon is not sufficient. A tank with a 72"x36" footprint would be sufficient.

I am going to build a plywood tank with a 72"x48" footprint once I build a shed for a fish room. My original plan was to get a shipping container, but they are hard to move and they do not have the dimensions I like.

Hi guys!! Not sure how old this is or not, but I thought I would jump on here. I have been on and off this site for a very long time to different degrees of activity. And the last few times I have jumped on it has been dead. very low response rates to post, less people buying/selling fish etc.

I am not a moderator on here or anything like that but IMO I would really encourage people to answer the posts/questions and not just push people to search. I find it so confusing that there are so many posts that end with someone saying to search etc.... Technically everything can be found by searching, but people are on forums to get live feedback and have that sense of community and in return they will want to respond.

+1

Lines you hear all the time on most forums one the web are:

" use the search function, this topic has been brought up numerous times"

To me that's not a very welcoming response to someone who maybe asking something for the first time.

A lot of people say unwelcoming stuff when they ask for info, this can turn off new hobbyist, but I don't know why so many old timers like knifegill and a lot of others seem to have vanished, most of the pro fish keepers I meet r over 40 maybe this is a hobby on decline.

The lounge died as did mfk when people couldn't stop asking stupid questions like "how many cichlids in a 125". "Can I keep an arowana with my cichlids in a 125". "Do I have to do water changes if I run an eheim 2213 on my 125 cichlid and aro tank". "Can someone help me stock my__gallon tank"
