Why Is It So Taboo For Someone Telling How Much They Bought A Fish For.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'll send you a top-less picture of my husband instead..?

I think most people will be happy to drop a $ amount of a good deal.. but seem less inclinded to drop a money amount on a "typical purchase".. which in itself I find funny.. as people will drop $ amounts on how much their tanks and equipment costs which in some cases exceeds the stock. all of Maddings points are inarguable imo.. and well said. But then tbh it's been years since I dropped more 'n 100$ on a fish. If I could afford to drop a few K on fish I would w/out hesitation, 'nore would I have issues discreetly answering honest inquires to how much such and such a fish cost if I felt the inquiry was reasonable.

Thanks for sharing...see sharing a the price for a certain fish sparks conversation and interests from other members. Its all about the hobby and the brotherhood. When ever I see a members cool rare fish, I always get curious of how much a fine animal like that would cost. Just curious, not to try to hate or create malicious intent.
I have always wanted to know what a true platinum silver aro cost, or like a true platinum gar cost, or one of those super gold crossback asian arowanas Koji is always showing us. Lets see someone post a price about those fishes...It'n not gonna happen. Now I hope everyone knows why I posted the original topic about its taboo to post prices of these rare fishes.

haha, i love when people flip out about someone getting too personal as far as money etc. i just figure, its a hobby and if other hobbier's are curious, why not spill it? its just paper anyway.. ^_^ im not bosting if i speak freely, i just. dont care. lol.
like guitars, i have a gibson les paul which cost like 2 grand, but its self cheering to say you worked hard to finally get it! not bosting. so, im just. whatever, lol i hear ya.

If I were asked the price of a fish, I would have to take the question in context. If it is a fellow enthusiast interested in a similar purchase and wants to buy as well, then no problem. If its another owner interested in compareing the price he paid; to see if he got a resonable deal, I prob. wouldnt mind. If its a person generaly snobby and wants to make fun or is more interested in price of fish, then no.

I have run across many people in many different hobbies that associate high price with high quality. It isnt always true.

I find that hard to believe since you have mentioned the whole topless wife pics thing multiple times in this thread. Either that or you have no wife and you want some topless wife pix from some other members....good luck, it's gonna be as hard to come by as pricing on their fish.

I think Oscarum monstruoso's response was a very clever way to take the thread off-track. OM's original request was for the moderator to close the thread.

Now I can understand if a poster (requesting a thread to be closed) was a major seller of fish and wanted to protect his profit margin and didn't want people to post competitive pricing. Unfortunately, censoring a discussion to benefit a small group of people with special interest reminds me of the tactics Egypt's ruling class used when they shut off the internet.

I recently benefited from a similar forum thread when I was agonizing over the $1,100 price for a bird I was interested in. In one of the forum threads there was a discussion on the topic of over-the-top prices for birds. Someone poster a link for a rescue service that had an over abundance of the particular species I was looking to buy. A week later I had two perfectly healthy and social birds and only paid a rescue fee of $100 each.

I would have been very upset if the owner of the mega-bird store that sells a large percentage of the birds in the US (posing as an ordinary forum member), for fear of losing out to the rescue service, asked the mods to close that thread.

I am not a vendor nor do I represent any fish sellers. Ive been around long enough to know that sometimes asking people the price they pay for their hobbies is out of line. Take a look at ArapaimaG's 50,000 gallon tank thread, theres a price question every two pages, which he politely ignores yet people keep asking.

I feel that if people want to share their costs they will do so voluntarily and being hounded about it is as rude as asking for topless wife pics.
