why is java moss so expensive?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I bought one of those little "portion" cups 2 years ago and no i have a 20gallon completely filled with the stuff. As long as you have clean water and good light is will flourish.

Don't know about the cost issue. My lfs gave me Java Moss and I have to "prune" it out about once a month or so now. It grows like a dirty rumor. One golf ball size piece is all you would need to "seed" your Java moss kingdom. :)

2nd on most of these comments.... Java Moss is tough and all you'll need is a golf ball sized piece to have enough for life lol I've had my java moss repopulate a tank once only from one piece I neglected to remove during a "take out" of it. It's hard to get rid of for the most part, especially if it attaches to something. 6 bucks isn't too bad since it'll only need to be bought once and you can put in almost any tank.. not a very picky plant.. grows like a weed on steroids IME... (2 WPG, no CO2, no fertz) Couldn't imagine a high tech set up with that stuff lol

yeah golf ball size is enough and this stuff grows like crazy after a while you will be asking yourself " I wonder what other tanks I can put java moss in?"
even with low lighting this stuff flourishes and will graft itself to anything even your substrate LOL

I have some java moss on my driftwood but I'm afraid its not getting enough light... I have Piranhas in the tank and they aren't the biggest fan of the light, well the effect the light has on the tank is more like it. They don't mind natural light but I was always told not to have sunlight on your aquarium, but I was reading on here that it isn't bad as long as you set it up right. Does anyone have any advice for me?

Would someone like to donate any to me? I'm in socal, and can't seem to find any in the LFS near by.

I'll gladly pay you.
