Why is my white gourami keep being at the top of the tank?

If we carry on like this, in no time at all we'll be on our 2nd or 3rd page of posts and still know nothing. All we know for sure is that you bought a very small juvenile giant gourami on 25th January and at the moment it is in a tiny 2ft grow out tank with sketchy filtration details to say the least. It was OK at first but seems to be deteriorating over the past couple of days, as in loss of appetite and surface hugging.

When you added your gourami to the tank was the tank cycled, as in did you have fish in it before? Or did you just set this 2ft tank up the same day you bought your gourami?

If you just threw this fish in an uncycled tank on the 25th Jan then the timescale is consistent with ammonia poisoning. Ammonia would cause these issues you speak of, and eventually worse!

You see, you're relatively new here, we don't know your level of experience so we have to go through and eliminate all the basics first so we can assess the situation.

Another issue you're faced with here is that it is notoriously difficult to maintain stable living conditions in such a small body of water.

So, was this tank cycled? And if you have a test kit you need to post your parameters urgently, as in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and PH.

Honestly, I don't think 2 feet is descript enough for us to figure out how big the tank is. like is it 2 feet in height, length, or width? Even if it is in height, what's the length and width?
