Why New Life Spectrum???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I switched to NLS before that article, still havnt read that article because this is what I did....... I just dont understand why people dont go to their LFS pick up NLS in their HAND and Pick up any other leading Brand and Compare Ingredients!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS SOOOOOO EASY and is completly fool proof the lable speaks for its self!

Lots of good pet foods have nutrition articles on their website. This is what I feed my furry pets:

Ditto, for several years now. The manufacturer (Champion Pet Foods) is actually located just an hour north of me.

I think NLS is a good food, but to sit here and read a promotional brochure for them and not to think it's of course going to push them in a better bracket is foolish. Informative yes, but designed to promote their brand, mores-so. Other brands likely don't opt for that because its not their branding campaign. Or they don't have the budget. Some of the best dog foods on the market DO NOT have any ads let alone an informative 11 pg. brochure.

FYI - that was an article posted on the manufacturers website, not an advertising brochure. Just so you know, New Life doesn't have any marketing campaigns or advertising brochures - or for that matter sales reps, marketing reps, or advertising reps. Other than the owner doing a couple of trade shows each year, the company doesn't advertise at all.

My hope for this thread is that through all the BS posted that of the over 600+ views here that some people were able to read the article and possibly learn something about fish food. If those people decide to use NLS then my opinion is that they are choosing a much superior food. If they don't then that's of course their choice, but hopefully information will have learned by those who read the article.

Just wanted to share the reason that tipped the scales and made myself switch to NLS.
I think the point some people are making is, can we honestly believe everything in that "article"? How much faith can we put in something that promotes the benefits of NLS over other products by the company itself? It's always Antarctic krill this, Atlantic herring that. How much of that "information" on fish nutrition is really true?

Did you actually read the article?
Heres what RD posted earlier on the matter...

"BTW - that article that Forrest linked to was originally written for Aquarium Fish International, and was printed in their Oct. 2007 publication. Pablo was cornered at a trade show & repeatedly asked if he would consider writing a nutrition article for the magazine, one which he was paid no funds for. Oh, and ALL references to NLS were removed for that publication, there was no mention of New Life whatsoever, so it certainly wasn't an advertsing plug. So when he updated his website a few yrs later, he decided to add that article to his website.

If that's a crime, well ......... "

NLS is good food. But there are plenty of other good food too.

Im feeding NLS thera A right now and my fish spit them out. The ones that eat them are the ones that eat everything and they let it mostly go out the gills like they only mean to chew for taste..

But I want to train them to eat Thera A just for the garlic in it. When Im out of Thera A Im gonna squeeze my own garlic juice into other good pellets. Hikari I like better but I think both are good so whichever one give more food for the buck..

Dont make me show you guys my Hikari fed cichlid. Don't make me mad and throw him in here.

I used to feed Hikari almost exclusively because I always thought NLS was too expensive... Then I started ordering all of my fish items online and NLS became cheaper in bulk than Hikari or other "good" brands. Now that I have switched to NLS, I find that my fish are slightly more colorful, and most importantly produce FAR LESS WASTE. The pellets are so hard that I can literally feed until my fish will not eat anymore, and then take HD pics/videos right after without seeing billions of suspended particles in the water. It's great. There's also a lot less poo too since a lot more of the food seems to be actually used by the fish! Those are my reasons why I won't switch to another brand!

It was mentioned earlier that hardness of NLS pellets is the reason why you see clouds of food particles coming our of gills. Do you use some of the larger pellets of NLS? I have 1.5 mm I think and they do cause this food particles cloud.

I use 4.5mm right now. I've raised a small Bifasciatus (about 2" when I got it) off these 4.5mm! Definitely not recommended, but I didn't want to buy smaller food just for one fish in the tank! Even the tiny Bifa gobbled pellets up until it's sides bulged out 3 times the normal width of the fish. I've never had issues of my fish rejecting, or any clouding whatsoever. Perhaps it's because I use the floating formula which is slightly softer? My fish ignored the smaller sinking formula.
