:iagree: thanks for getting things back on track FS

Wet/Drys are a more advanced UGF in my personal opinion

What do UGFs do? Draw water over the biomedia and trap detritus.

What do w/d's do? Draw water over the biomedia and trap detrius..

What do w/d's do that UGFs don't? More turnover, more aeration, more surface area, more gallonage, hides the heater, make water changes easier, allow you to have sand, can be customized to fit your needs and modified if need be, allow you to grow out small fish, allow you to grow plants to help fight nitrates, and make the tank look "clean" because other than the overflow and return, you don't see anything with it.

Just my $.02, no more fighting, everyone :chillpill:
UGF to a WD is a big jump. If you go buy either at the store, the UGF will cost about 10% of the wet/dry. But yes a wet/dry will be a more effective filter.

I think the bacteria might be different too. I think the W/D would house more aerobic bacteria and the UGF anaerobic bacteria. Anyone know if this right? Just a thought.

And sorry about the little scuffle on the last page... I meant no harm.

Be civil or be deleted, I know of a 350g that is UGF only, The biggest I have kept was a 150g that used a canister rater for 150g, a hang onrated to 100g max, and 3 55g ugf, it stay stable through a couple power outages.
You can disagree with each other, or me but you keep getting rude and i will delete you.
Wet drys are , in my opinion, probably the best filters around for tanks under 500g, then, according to the literature, suspended sand filters are the best, and cheapest.
That wasn't what this thread was about, it was about what works for a moderate sizedf tank,.
Personally I am going to continue to use a UGF and another (supplementary) filter.
I am not saying that this is the best choice. I am sasying it works, and before you filter fanatics jump on my case I want you to remember that one member, who has more gallonage than any of us can do more than dream of, has no filters at all, he does a 10%+ water change though a trickle system. I wish I could set one up, Once a week change the mechanical fiter. No waterr changes. I mean..., Damn.

Just giving my opinion, Delete me if you wan't I don't give a ****..........Li will just unban me so whateva.....If you keep large cichlids UGF's are a disaster due to all the digging. But I guess if you keep smaller occupants they can be inexpensive and practical but I believe good waterflow and maximum GPH keeps large fish healthier and water clarity better which is something a UGF can't compare too. Sorry if I upset anyone....."Merry Christmas" everyone......

no one is above the rules not even staff so if you carry on being abusive to other members the posts will be deleted.
if this statement i put in bold is true and a ban was warranted i think a few staff would have things to say about it.

I've been warned by Aro about the abusive mods here and I won't think twice to rejoin forces with W-W....... No ban was warranted but i'm not going to be threatned by a punk with banning powers...........

Really many different things works best for many different people they way i see it we were asked to post OUR opinions and again there would be many different ones...there is no reason to be rude or make wars over it... for me i dig they wet dry , i also like fluidized bed filters ...people have used undergravels for years and been happy ..so be it..but lets not war on it.. don't worry be happy
