Do you have any hiding spots in the tank? Also a lot of bright light without dim areas? I've found stressed dats are less likely to take food.... especialy without a hiding spot and escape from light!

Lots of hiding spots, but the new tiny dats don't seem to mind being out in the open.
Though some of them actually hide under the lungfish like he's a giant log.
My tank is very dim now, I barely have a proper light.

I always just had something in the tank that would eat whatever I was trying to get my new dats to eat. They need to recognize it as food. I had a fussy NGT and live blackworms did it for me.

Brine shrimp did the trick!!!
Every dat loves it.
But I just can't seem to keep them alive long enough.

Also, I don't rinse them when I feed, I guess it should be alright since its only a small amount of salt water going into a 125g, plus I do big water changes.
Thanks for the help guys!
I just need to get them OFF brine shrimp now.

Get red wiggler worms as dats LOVE those. If the worms are too big, cut them up into pieces they can swallow.

Get them on pellets ASAP. I recently just got some of my dats on NLS.

His dats refused to eat anything exept brine schrimp, not a good idea to start trying to convert to pellets....
Just fatten them up first then try converting when you feel comfortable they have enough bulk on them..
I've never had a tiger refuse live river schrimp....
I have 2 baby IT that only eat bloodworm... I won't be converting them to pellets until they are at least 3 inch.

How would you convert them onto pellets, the starving method or what? Will that work with dats?

Starving does work but some dats are very stubborn, it can take many weeks. If they get sunken bellies and start looking wafer thin then give in , fatten up on why they will eat and steve again.... That is if you are really committed to converting
To pellets...
I just starved an 8 inch IT for 4.5
Weeks... He now eating massivore...
