The easiest way to deal with fungal infections on fish, is to catch it, and with a Q-tip, dab Malachite Green directly on the infected area. Should clear right up.
HUH never used it before makes sense to treat just the area that needs it ..Hey HillBilly any Lfs has this ?

There was no wound its 5 or 6 different spots. the only fighting was between the large mono and the oscar and the oscar took a beating and he is healing just fine. If any of them should have fungus it should be the oscar or the tem. But for some reason the mono got it. Ill have to pick some Malachite Green up catching and holding that mono is goning to be easyer said than done. Id prefer to treat the single fish instead of the entire tank.

Hulon, Malachite Green is an "old school" treatment, but very useful for a number of things. I would think most LFS would have it. The last time I bought some, I got it at Petsolutions online. I think a 4oz. bottle cost around $3 or $4.

Just get someone to assist you, and have them grasp the fish while still in the net while you do the treatment. That way if they drop the fish, it doesn't wind up on the floor. I've done this dozen of times in my years working at public aquariums.

Nice sometimes the tried and true for sure....

ok so got home today and the large mono was sitting on the bottom with his fins clamped, showing no intrest in food again. However the white spots haddent spread i think they acctually shrank. but anywho i decided to treat the whole tank with malachite green. So i started today and it hasnt changed their behavior, they dont seem to be stresed by it. so ill continue the treatment for the three days and see what happens.

keep us updated for sure !!! Hope they start getting well for ya ....

Why did you put it in the tank water? The water will dilute it. The treatment is to put it directly on the infected area. Oh well, good luck.

well originaly i was going to catch him but after i saw him sitting on the bottom fins clamped. I assumed it had gotten worse and had spread. Also since the spots were so small i wouldnt have been able to spot them after i got him out (the spots show up really well under the tank light) So i treated the whole tank. Anyway he seems to be doing better today the spots are smaller and he is more active. Hopfully he'll start to eat soon.

Thanks for the help guys
