Why is the azul and kelberi so expensive?

Why are classic cars expensive? For the same reason rare fish are. You don't see them everywhere...

In reality, they are no better or "cooler" than any other variety of cichla. People just think they are great because if they have them, they can claim bragging rights on hard to obtain fish.

Not neccesarily. I have azuls because I really like their bars....5 that come to a point. It looks cool. And the blue on their fins is stunning.

Kelberi for a diff. reason. When you have a really nice kelberi the gold is so bright you almost need glasses. And who doesnt like those spangles? And they also stay a much more manageable size. But a stunner kelberi is hard to come by. A lot look like monos...But when you get a nice one.....watch out. They're hot!

Its not all bragging rights for some folks. Its the certain charecteristics that each diff. species of cichla carry that make them special.

In my experience with Kelberi, you couldnt even GIVE me one of those finicky little turds! Unless it was allready pellet trained, then I might take it lol. I worked for 6 months to get one off of live just so I could sell it. Finally got it on silversides and the buyer told me he hasnt gotten it to take anything but live since. Made me look like a fool.

I think Li and I paid a good bit more when B Scott brought in those "first" few Azuls about 5 years ago... We also both drove up to NJ to pick them up. It was odd to see someone local at a house ~4hrs away. :D

You definitely have a point there as far as kels being so finicky and I've had my ups and downs with them. The thing with me is that most of the other bass don't really appeal to me and if it was'nt for the Kelberi,I probably would'nt be into peacocks.

Hardly. They just take a long time to develop. You think they look like Monos because the only ones you see posted on here are juvies/sub adults.

Wait so do all kelberi end up looking like this? Or are there different qualities of kelberi?
