You all are wrong. Its cuz they are so cool and our we are willing to plunk down the cash.

exactly - if people keep paying the big money they will always be sold for the big money - take certain ray species and zebra plecs - its all a big con- WC fish i can understand being slightly more on the expensive side but many fish are now being captive bred so why should they still command a high price? its because of the high price tag that not everyone has that "rare" fish and because fewer people own them, the market isnt saturated with them - keeping the price high!!! like i said a con!

Wait so do all kelberi end up looking like this? Or are there different qualities of kelberi?
You made a statement about them, followed by questions? It seems that you have'nt seen enough of them to know what you are talking about.

The fish that are discussed in this thread are mostly wild caught as stated a few threads ago and most collectors who are willing to pay for these fish happen to know a little about them so there is no con in this case.

Yeah, there are a few variations of them.

Hardly. They just take a long time to develop. You think they look like Monos because the only ones you see posted on here are juvies/sub adults.

That's the thing with fish. A lot of people get bored with, have an accident with, or otherwise sell off fish long before they fully mature. Not just cichla of course, but all kinds of fish. So, is it worth the extra money to get a hard to obtain fish? Not to me. I've been working with fish for over 40 years. Because of this, I judge the value of a fish way different than someone else who is out to make a collection. It really all comes down to what is important to the person buying it. I say if they want expensive fish, and can afford them, go for it! :D

I just got con'd again.......Kelb #3 and i only paid 643 dollars for him. Kidding he was only 545.

I have had many fish in the past, but nothing hits like a 14 inch + pbass, just awesome. And honestly what keeps me buying, at high prices, is just seeing the different variations as adults ie Dieselmacks vids on U tub, which are ridiculously amazing. If you bail on your bass before 14 inches you should not be allowed back in the club of PBASS Husbandry. They just change so much for the better.

blah blah blah, someone post some pictures.

The price tag is what ever the buyer is willing to pay. I will pay for what I want or should I say I have. About them looking like Monos haha I have a pair of Wild Caught Purivians not bragging but when I say my kelberi blow them out the water I mean out the water by far. But here is some food for thought they had to evolve from one of the Cichla sp. ;)
