Why's my fader blacking up again??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hmmmm, odd. Do you think it might be a psychological thing ? Anything in particular changed in the tank, or tankmates ?

I put a small flowerhorn in the other day for 2 mins, he started savaging it so I took it out, maybe that was it??? He seems less confident, maybe he got scared from me getting the other one out???

Pictures?
There are theories out there that a fader can form back into their black coloring stage if the water is poor quality. But I have yet seen this for myself so I can't really say anything about it.

if faders are anything like red devils (not too familiar with faders...) they can change as they grow, sometimes with a little black, then getting more, then losing it again... how old/big is yours?

My fader sometimes has those black patches...i'm gonna guess it happens when she's stressed out...But i have heard of others stating when the water quality is poor the black patches show up as well....just like Big ONE said

I've noticed this,
it seems to me that red devils (lab. and cit.) both get black patches when their social rank changes,
so the dominant one is the full colour, and the submissive ones have gradually more black or white patches.
Faders are mostly red devil so I believe this would apply
Can they see any other cichlids?

My guess would be that the arrival of the other smaller Fh stressed him out and that is probably the cause of his colour change. Has he faded again since ?

He Is in a tank with a shy blockhead, smaller than the fh but holds his own if fh gets nasty, they stay at opposite sides of the tank usually

My water is fine and stable, I did move some caves when trying to catch the other fh, maybe this confused him?? I'll get some pics up, before/after
