I am in the process of translate a vids about Dats in Thailand which is very good information and will help JD with his project. It's worth of try.

Pulcher if you think Thailand water are clean, please rethink again. I live in Thialand many years, and been swimming in Mangkong River numberus of time. Im telling you now that, that river are NOT clean at all.

is this video online? can you post the link. i wanna see it.

you joke about the making a $400 fish into a $20 fish by captive breeding them right

maybe you should pass on that info to all the captive breeders of rays right now :D

if they carry on breeding leos they are going to cost $20

Seriously mate you and your buddy aint gonna breed ST in your fish tank in your bedroom doesnt matter what course he is currently doing. It seems to me you are desperate for an ST so your trying to stoop someone into selling you one by them thinking your gonna give the x amount back once they have bred. Fact of the matter all the people who own ST know that you aint gonna breed them this is one 11 page pointless debate. All your arguments are false as T1 pointed out there are lots of people in the US, Asia and Europe breeding black rays but the supply doesnt meet the demand. IT are 10 a penny but still sell for about $60 a throw in shops over here and loads of them sell all day long so even if ST were bred the interest wouldnt die off just more people would have the option to own a great fish.

IMO different.. because of how many your getting from each batch.. how many would you get from each batch of ST babies? And you get what 6-10 pups per batch of stingray babies?

lol, judging from how egg layers breed, you can get hundreds and maybe thousands from full grown ST breeding. Rays, 2-4 pups I think.

if you got 10000 from one egg lay from ST then with the ban in place ST should have caught back up in the wild by now

as stated look at the price of IT they are not $20 per fish and their are loads of them around

the min i would say you would get for ST is $70 per fish and if they do have 1000s like you say then their will be a mark up of $70,000 per brood how can anyone say thier is no profit in it

their are also lots of IT around and demand is still high

Im getting tired of comments from ingorant people. Until you have put as much time in it as I have why try to sound like you know something?

T1, like already pointed out, rays have FAR less young the perches. One clutch from one female could produce more babies then all the captive bred rays in five years. Comments like that make me thing you REALLY aint the sharpest tool in the shed.

Apparently only a few educated individuals are here.

Didnt FRP say he had hard time selling them for $40? What do you think is going to happen when/if 10s of thousands are produced? I HATE to break it to you all but STs are NOT a popular fish!!! Grow up, get your head out of your PC and look around you. Ive worked in a LFS for three years and I have NEVER had a customer inquire about STs. We had ITs for $6 and couldnt sell them. MOST PEOPLE THAT HAVE AQUARIUMS BUY SMALL COMMUNITY FISH.

Im no economist but I more then understand a concept or two...

In the wild there are a lot of preds that would eat most of the free swimmers not to mention eggs alone.

I would say the heavy pollution has a lot to do with the lack of ST babies because Thailand is a pretty dirty place for the most part...

Really ST's are only popular with people that love Dats and that isnt everyone.

sharpest tool in the box :screwy:

it doesnt take much to work out the profit margins hear how much do IT sell for over in the US ?

it must be $30 min and a shop that gets them will sell out fairly fast and can buy in more to sell if they need to

i may not be the shapest tool in the box like you say but i can tell you one thing ST were selling for $60 hear in the UK before the ban and their were lots about

you are talking about a $60,000 mark up from 1 brood before expences

i may not be the sharpest tool in the box but the hormones will be very cheap and if i was dead sure i could breed ST to make a $55,000 mark up i wouldnt be posting hear i would be working harder to breed them not asking people to sell ST

even if the prices did drop to $20 per fish then you would still have a mark up of $20k

Guys, this thread was going really well with different opinions and reasonings behind them... Let's not get little kids and use personal insults to justify our point of view.
