WL isn't visible to you guys anymore isn't it?

Also, Swedish law doesn't make this illegal...as well as there are safe harbor provisions on providers where the content is user generated.

If i post a picture of something here when i don't have copy right...Li doesn't get charged for having stolen images hosted on his server. However if Li uploads an image that he stole then he could get introuble.

frasertheking;

Please do not post anything about Assange and the unrelated charges, even if you are among the believers that believe the charges are a smear campaign

talking about him and the alleged charges will inevitably lead this topic to saying wikileaks is bad, because Assange is bad...and get this thread closed.

Those provisions do not hold true for classified and government specific data such as this. So while he would not have had to worry if he was hosting a bit torrent site he DOES have to worry when posting classified data from the US. They also posted the data that they recieved not the individuals stealing it for them.

Those provisions are also to protect a host in that they might not know the file or picture is stolen whereas in this instance even if the individuals posted the data on WL, WL woudl still know the data is sensitive and woudl have to pull it down. Again we are talking govt files and not someone's copy of Toy Story 3...

The us has already set presidents on this sort of stuff, most early releases on movies are under NDA, they get leaked, and there isn't this sort of repercussion.

Also, the states didn't go and burn down the times printing pressed did they?

NDA and such on movies, games, books, ect are very different then classified military and govt data.

No the govt did not burn down the Times but you will also notice the pullback in a lot of the news agencies on reporting of the actual data and instead on the hunt for the man and how the US is looking to come down on him.

The govt does not always need to launch a full frontal attack esp when it is a US based firm. You think the Times want shut out of govt interviews and such? You think Amazon wanted the govt to come after it had they not stopped hosting the WL site?

I agree with the core idea of Wikileaks and I supported them for a long time. Lately I have begun rethinking my stance, since it seems they are simply out to belittle the US and not actually do anything beneficial.

This is kind of my standing as well. I was fine with the Iraq and will be fine with banking data. But where is data from other countries? The US is FAR from the only ones doing this. The UK is right there with us in many instances. Russia, Iran, Israel, ect would have stacks of files.

ok ok so Canada might be a boring read. Cables on what foreign dignitaries like maple syrup or something. LOL

amazon disabled there account because of a TOS violation ... ;)

I wont argue that there is a difference between an NDA and classified but the principle is the same, and it isn't enforced uniformly which is my problem with it.

Id like to point out wikileaks is still in googles cache, kekeke, wonder how long it'll be before thats cleared out

our anti-ice gel would help out russia if that ever got leaked, OH NO WHAT HAVE I DONE :nilly:

Amazon was able to use TOS as an excuse since it was stolen data but if you think they woudl have continued to host it even if it was not a TOS violations your crazy...

I think the govt is still trying to figure out how to prosecute the leakers of the data and if I was one of them I would be worried. WL has only been around a few months so really the speed of govt action has been pretty swift...
