Huge difference in he appearance of WC vs the ones we raise.....

Interesting note on that: I've read that these fish actually comprise a species complex of four different varieties that have yet to be adequately described by science. I don't have the source for that readily available right now unfortunately. The difference between these guys and the ones we have in the hobby could be as simple as collection points.

I agree both species get overshadowed...hmm...that might be a good setup Odoes and Tats if the odoes don't outgrow and kill the tats. From reading on here it seems like Tats almost stop growing in aquariums around 11-12", someone needs to import some larger ones or something.

In my searches for data, I've never found anything to conclusively support the idea that a tat will get much over 18" even in the wild. The big 'tats' that I've seen have actually been the rufous-finned armatus populations from NE South America. I'm convinced that this species stays small.

I read that there were 2 different geographical variants yet to be described...never had an idea there were actually four..wow!

Are these armatus or tat? Both were posted as tats.....there's a really old thread on here with some big tats in it Im going to have to dig up.

The bottom one is a tat. The one in the fishing picture is impossible to say for sure. There's nothing diagnostic on that pic and there's also nothing that really indicates size. Occam's Razor indicates that it's probably an armatus with a oddly colored tail. Armies with both reddish tails and lacking the white stripe are well documented; the tail does also look damaged. It is possible that it is a truly exceptional tat, but that fish which is likely about 2' long would be exceptional in the same way that a 4' armatus or 150 GATF is exceptional.

Yea I know there's nothing that indicates size just wanted your opinion on them...I would even be satisfied with a 16in tat.
