If I actually found one, as long as it wasn't a hybrid, only line bred ... then sure. Stranger things have happened. I've even owned EBJD's before.

No way anyone can tell the difference between wild and a good quality captive fish by sight (with the exception of some species that need certain environmental stimuli to appear a certain way; i.e. labiatus lips).

Captive bred will be much more hardy for the most part..... Until they get overbred. Wilds are nice to keep the bloodlines fresh from time to time.

Also, I disagree that capturing wild fish is bad for the species. The demand for such fish often is the only reason a certain habitat is economically feasible to sustain. For instance, most cardinal tetras in the hobby are wild, and they a THE money fish in parts of South America. That leads to sustainable harvesting and the protection of certain parts of their habitats.

I like both, but there is a problem. the wild fish come from lakes/seas that are several trillion gallons in some places, perfect water quality, no bullying tankmates, and plenty of hiding places, to take all that away, cram them into something that is way to small for them and possibly have bullying tankmates is not fare for the fish. I found it hard to move from a 3000sqft house to a 1900 sqft house, so i know how they feel. I like the colors of wild caught species and the freshness of there colors, but also i like the very vivid and bright colors of farm bred specimens as well.

I do perfer wilds over line bred discus anyday so I voted wild for that reason...

I choose line bred because I am against pulling fish out of the wild that are currently being bred in captivity. Wild fish also never seem to settle in as well as tank raised fish. Wild has it's benefits but there's nothing wrong with f1's, f2's, f3's etc.. as long as you're getting the from a reliable source. Line bred fish tend to be nicer quality specimens too because they're not just a random catch it was likely that the breeder would chose the parents for specific traits. Like others already said you have to switch up the blood lines from time to time, you can't inbreed 1 family of fish or you'll end up with deformities and infertility.

if I had the option I would take a f1 over wild caught or line bred

i agree with you guys about taking them from their natural home into a trapped tank for our enjoyment. That kind of sucks for them.. Where captive were born in enclosures and that's all they know.

I personally think wild fish are ugly. F1 is where the quality comes out.

Hi,I say wild because nothing beats nature!
So can you tell if it's naturally from the wild?
