Wild Orinos? **WARNING***

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Damn, those would have had me fooled. After reading James' posting, seems like the discontinuity in the lateral line is a very good indicator or species as most of these have solid lines..

They still look like they'd be nice looking cichla though. Did you grow any out?

Yea, a buddy of mine did.. he teases me and calls them NOrinos =-( I was fooled by the gold rings and spots. I should have just gone by the black lateral line that stretches across the tail.

Orino = no line across tail
Fake Orino = straight line across tail.

Actually member JustinK and darkemotion warned me about them. They were right all along.

I will be picking it up soon so I'll post updated pictures as to what they look like now, He say's regardless they are not Orinos they look nice.

based on troutking's thread of what small Orinos look like I would say based on that, these are not Orinos.
If you notice the black horizontal bar extends through the tail which an Orino's horizontal bar stops just short of the tail...
I'm not an expert but figured I'd give it a go and see what people thought...

peruvian mono's, I have 2 myself hitting 7-8" now. When I got them at 3" I thought the same thing.

exactly what i was thinking!

nice group of orinos!

I think I am in the same boat. I was almost 100% sure these were orinos when I picked em up, but now I am thinking ocells from guyana or the peru monos that R1 posted. Guyana ocel for reference.
