Mojarra is just a common term for cichlid in Central/South America.

Those are sweet fish, but not as big as I expected for wild adult male umbie. (Don't let the photos fool you, they're doing the old fisherman's trick on most of them.)

The second pic with the dark umbee with the hump is a pretty big fish. Showing its size in relation to his body and not holding it out to the camera. Wow nice fish!

I bet they are a blast to catch, I bet they fight like a dump truck full of pit-bulls on steroids

Wow that umbee is massive. It looks like a tank. How is your male umbee?
Unfortunately he was ill a few weeks ago and passed away. He became lethargic, stopped eating, swimming with his caudal fin up, and developed a few pimple like lesions. Furanase, Maracyn and Marcyn II but no effect. Next time I'll be sure to have Nitrofurazone on hand for I heard that does wonders. He was 17" TL:

Sorry to here that also. I pretty much had the same problem with mine last year. And pretty freaky...almost the same photo. Even the tape measure for crying out loud:

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear about this Roliva. He was one heck of an umbee too. By the looks of your signature, I assume you're growing out another?

Sorry for your loss! Those pics are freaky! We have the same tile floors and both umbees on towels, although mine is a cheap paper towel:WHOA:!!

Yes, I have 5 juvies growing out now. The biggest at 4.5" TL. I'm guessing male for this one and will keep everyone posted.
