You could do a male JD a male Convict and a male Firemouth in a 55 if you wanted.

They can get to be 12 inches or more,the width of a standard 55. You could do it,but I don't think it would be an ideal tank for that fish. Make sure you overfilter the tank if you do. A nice size canister and a HOB would be my choice.

Id think so.I always hear that they can reach a foot but never seen one that big.Most max out at 8-10"If yours really gets that big the tank upgrade is worth it.

I got a RD, GT and JD juvies in a 10 G but plan to upgrade next weekend should i do gravel and any suggestions for the layout of the 55g tank?

I like the JD, con, firemouth idea. I haven't seen a 12" JD yet, but the one I gave to a friend has topped out at 10" and looks great in his 55.
