Will AI go bankrupt from gross overextention?
Rick compares this to the megabuck pro recording studio business, that was all destroyed by the cheap PC biz.
Hello; no not quickly. No doubt some applications will be money making cows using AI. Also, military & such will spend most any amount to get an advantage.AI has downsides but it won't d1e in a sec.
wise opinion, got you!Hello; no not quickly. No doubt some applications will be money making cows using AI. Also, military & such will spend most any amount to get an advantage.
An example of a low return use might be the way automobiles became loaded up with clever but largely pointless tech. Buyers went for the shinny new features for sometime now. Best I can gather buyers are becoming priced out of new vehicles. Some due to the $50K+ pricing. Some due to being underwater on the vehicle they try to trade in. One of my takes is both the government & dealers added tech and gadgets largely because they could. Sure, people like some of the stuff. A point I am getting at is the cost has been catching up with owners.
Look at the front and rear bumpers of new pickups. They will have an array of sensors and likely one or more cameras. My older base pickup has just a bumper. I can likely get a new replacement for a couple hundred bucks. A used one for much less. Look at a new car windshield also loaded with sensors for things such as automatic windshield wipers. I am driving along and somehow it is now a chore to turn on the wipers???
Years ago when personal computers became the big new shinny item my school district decided to get one for each classroom. I lobbied for physical hands on materials for my science classroom. Nope, I got a desktop PC. No software to run on it. (seems the folks in charge did not know about soft ware or the need for such so did not budget for that.) I was able to borrow some 5 & 1/4 inch floppy's from a special ed teacher. Mostly games. He did have one ballistics disk which sort of was science. Alas one of the troubles maker kids destroyed that disk because it was not a game.
Am I saying PC's were worthless? Of course not. They do some things well. Same for AI.
