Will bala sharks go well with pacu fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
"A year ago in a 55.(about 10 inches)...Today in a 220.(about 22 inches)" (frnchjeep)

"I bought my pacu at the 2 to 2.5 inch mark 2.5 years ago now-He is easily 24 inches now...." (akskirmish)

"Yeah, watching the ones here grow the reds and blacks grow the fastest... reds slightly faster. Mine went from 6" to well over 30" in less than a year." (Zoodiver)

"mine grew an easy 3 inch a month from about 6 inch to 18-20."

"you can expect a pacu to reach around 16" in that first year." (ikeepPacu)

"mine grew an inch per month. mine reached 18 inches in a 90 in a little over year and a half." (12 volt man)

"mine outgrew my 150 gallon in 5 months. they need 1000 gallons no less,
I got them when they were under an inch." (crazy taco)

Few quotes (from MFK threads) on pacu growth, assuming the OP means red or black pacu. A 400 gallon will be inappropriate for pacu in a relatively short time (1 year) if fed properly.

Presumably, the OP has a tank much larger than a 400, is planning to move them to something much larger than a 400, or they aren't the red or black pacu. Certainly reasonable to start with a 400 if you have plans to move them to something much larger, although it's sometimes startling how fast these fish grow.

I've seen more than one post from people suggesting that they looked like they had gotten overnight.

That is what I plan on doing is donating them to a pond or zoo aquarium when they get two big for me to handle, I have 120 gallon although I plan on taking out all my decorations as they get bigger so they have more space.
then don't get them!

it's doesn't matter if you take good care of them when you're gonna give them to the zoo or Aquarium because many zoo and aquarium stop accepting fish from people like you.
Around my area, Dallas world Aquarium have the biggest tank and also have the biggest captive pacu in the world. They has stop taking fish from people that have no clue what they are getting when they buy the fish or just too ignorant to care. Their 200k gallon tank is now pretty crowded with the ridiculous amount of pacu and RTC. The tank don't even look as good as a few years ago due to so many pacu and RTC. They even attack the ducks swimming on top of the tank as part of the amazon exhibit. The RTC swallowed the small ducks that fit their mouth and also ate all the small fish in the tank(peacock pass, niger catfish), the pacus started attack the ducks wen they're hungry.
Zoo and aquarium in the U.S are pretty much full of pacu and RTC in their amazon display now that donate your fish when they get too big is not an option anymore.
