if he is swimming and eating i would def not kill him, wait to see how he heals and dont know if you already said you did this or not but PLEASE take the crayfish out of there if you havent already best of luck, hope the little guy pulls through

In a few days you'll probably see fuzzy fungus growing around the wound that is impossible to kill with salts and meds. A month later he'll be dead. Feeding him to your Oscar is no more inhumane than smoothering him in cooking oil or flushing him down the toliet or giving him to someone else who thinks they can play god and magically re-grow fish appendages while he slowly dies- no matter where he goes he's dead.

I think it will grow back. Ive see/heard others having fish with similar injuries and it growing back. However, other peopel are right. It wont be the same again.

Add melafix/pimifix to prevent infection. If infection takes place use maracyn.

Nope i think the fin is doen for because it has goen into the spine...i had a JD in a Mbuna tank and they chomped him down...i put him in another tank and it never grew back.
