ive seen fish on here in much worse shape that got taken care of and came out looking like there was never anything wrong. i think your fish will look perfectly fine if treated properly. good luck and look forward to seeing some pics down the road.

ok then yeah if he is the boss of your tank, then as others have already said just keep the water pristine and he should heal just fine, usually the only time these types of injuries dont heal is when the damage goes all the way into the base of the fins but the damage on yours doesnt come close to this so he should heal just fine and in 2 weeks will probably look like a whole new fish

I just thought I'd say that Melafix isn't anywhere near natural (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melafix) however it can be very usefull when used in the right way. I would only use it after trying salt and a slightly higher temp.

Also, if you do decide to try it then just go to your lfs and buy the pond melafix as it's cheaper for a bigger bottle and it'll do something silly like 1ml per 50gallons because it's concentrated. Whereas the normal one is something like 5ml per 40 litres.

Good luck with the fish pal :)
