i dont think its gonna pass because why try to pass it while there are already billions of pet in the unites states already. and plus how can u stop them from breeding? its a natural thing. if the unites states passes it im moving to canada or australia!

I would stay away from Australia as well, they have pretty strict laws on what types of fish can be bought or sold as well...

Any way, i don't live in the US, but all i can say is all governments are the same... they don't really think whats best for their people, more what THEY think will be best for their people... so if they think getting rid of the hobby will help, chances are they probably will...

Its like the ban on hunting Sharks and Blue Fin Tuna etc... like i'll NEVER forget this one reply from one of the representatives in Hong Kong saying she will NOT support the ban only because her stupid daughter likes eating sushi, and she doesn't want to see sushi taken off the menu coz her daughter will get upset with her :screwy:

I mean seriously wheres the logic in that... especially once all the fish have been fished out of the sea, then she definitely won't be having sushi no more...

Sorry just had to get that off my chest...

Too many hippies with power and a lack of knowledge on what they're going against. I guess what really triggered them to ban Piranha here in WA was because some people found a couple dead Pacu in a lake... Rather than looking into the situation, they just used it as an excuse to ban Piranha. Call me crazy, but I have swam MANY of the lakes here in WA and there is NO way Piranha could survive the temp. I know there were other reasons behind it, but this was just the thing needed to put their foot down. Piranha are so cool, too :(

I don't want it to pass, but I am afraid (as has been said in the thread before) that many gov. officials will just see invasive species and automatically think BAD without really understanding the impacts of the bill
yep. sadly it's true.

Maybe I'm just naive, but most of the people willing to put the work into purchasing non-native fish from overseas probably aren't going to be dumping their fish anyway for 1 of 2 good reasons... 1. That's a lot of money to just throw away, and 2. (and most importantly) Most hobbyists that would be that serious have enough sense NOT to introduce a non-native species into the habitat.

Again, I could be wrong, but I really don't see this law making too much of a difference....except that if non-native species become contraband, it could make it MORE LIKELY that people would dump them just to get them out of their possession.

Just my thought.

It is the duty of a righteous man to defy an unjust law.

When tropical fish are outlawed, only outlaws will have tropical fish.

::straps on banderilla::

THEN I WILL BE A OUT LAW LOL

I voted for the third option, though I think if it does pass it will really affect fish prices and availability here in Canada. A lot of the fish seem to come from the States at the moment. If the bill goes through, stores will have to find new sources for fish, probably at higher prices.

I don't think it will pass though.
