Perhaps if someone attacked our shores I would feel differently.

There seem to be plenty of people willing to enlist.
911? Did "they" not attack our shores?

You'll be surprised how many people will not serve. Armed Service Branches are struggling to recruit new "soldiers" .

I remember 911 as well as anyone. It wasn't a country that attacked us, it was some crazy group in Afghanistan. We are still trying to find him.

Many of my friends andfamily have gone into the military. Plus there was this post:

The military is still downsizing so, a draft in the near future is unlikely. Currently, the number of people looking to enter the military is such that the military is raising the bar in their requirements. I was a Fire Control Tech maintaining surface and air action radar systems and their peripheral equipment. A HS diploma was all that was needed to get into that rating when I entered the service. Today, the same rating demands an associates degree or higher to get your foot in the door.
Add to the number of military entrants those that are having a difficult time securing employment in the current economy and the inevitability of a draft needed to fill the ranks becomes even more remote.

Yes, yes...

As for the military in general, The air force down sized. Not the army, marines, don't know about the navy. The army dropped there standards down REALLY low to recruit as many people as they can. The army Lowered the bar for people that wanted to go Warrant Officer. PT test are now paper jammed then actually doing a PT test. That Army cuts corners when it benefits them.

I served in the Marines and have killed many people.
I don't wish that on anyone. If the time comes and we need a draft so be it.
As for the people that say they will draft dodge, run I don't want you there with me when the time comes that I need my family. I'd rather have you run away then fight beside me.

Yet another reason I'm glad I'm a girl.

I also don't think it's fair to flame people for not wanting to fight in a war. I'm not interested in fighting or war or any of it. Perhaps if someone attacked our shores I would feel differently. But that's how I stand now.

To answer the poll no I don't think there will be a draft. There seem to be plenty of people willing to enlist.
Do you honestly believe that if our govt gets so hard up for troops that they are forced to draft that being a "girl" will matter? With equal rights comes equal responsibility...you would sue in a heartbeat if a man got promoted at work over you based on his gender, but hide behind your skirt at the mere mention of war.my daughter is serving...i served..as did my father and grandfather...im resisting saying how i really feel about the potential draft dodgers ...MFK is an awesome community so im going to refrain from these OT threads...my blood boils at to low a temp

All is good man. I don't really agree with the Draft Dodgers, but hey, I server for them so that don't have to. It will give them a chance and try and have a happy life and not server, it good for them. Nobody should have to see the conflicts of war...NO BODY.
As stated in a early post, I'd agreed to having a mandatory time in service. Just for the simple fact that it would be educational and a humbling experience. IMO. SO, no need to worry and get all mad about it, there will be 10x more people willing to sever.....I hope.

Draft dodgers :lipsseale

Makes me sad. Out before I lose respect for more people.

You can't assume that about me. I don't think i would sue anyone over something so silly.
Look I would be horrible at combat. I have a small frame, I can't run fast and guns terrify me. That's fantastic that your daughter is serving but it's something she obviously wanted to do. I don't, and it would be a horrible idea to put me in a combat situation.

I'm a wife, that's something I'm good at. So I would much rather stay at home and continue that instead of being sent off to some war I have no hope of surviving.

We are still trying to find him? Find who? If it was a group than why do we have to find "him?"
