Will the United States ever have a draft?

Ok so here is another question regarding this thread.

Is it wrong for people to go to jail if they don't want to serve the United States when there is a draft?

I think it's illegal to not fill out the/a card (forgot the name of it) once you turn 18.

The selective service application? I just sent that in the mail like just yesterday. I turned 18 six months ago and they sent it this late. They said if i dont send that in in 10 days i will face prison time and a fine.

That's the one. That works in conjunction with the draft. Do I think it right to fill it out and send it in, sure. Do I think it's right to go to jail for refusing to go if the draft was implemented.... Eh...50/50 on it.

Okay then. :screwy:
If I don't want to go over to Iraq and kill some people and shoot their brains out or blow up their cities I shouldn't have too.

I will though defend THIS country. If anyone invaded the United States of America, I will fight. Our forefathers fought the British for THIS country to be ours. But will I go and fight on behalf of this country in Iraq or across the seas....NO.
then you should have no rights as a citizen of this country...it dosent matter if you "don't agree" with the war or dont "want" to fight ...its the duty of EVERY American to answer the call of there country..That is the price of the freedom that you now enjoy...no one "wants " to kill or be killed but that is the reality of the world we live in... and remember the thousands who have fought and died so you could freely express your opinion ... having said that i will exercise my 1st amendment right and say i hope you do move to cananda with or without a draft...and never darken with your shadow the blood soaked lands of my for fathers who fight and died for this greatest of country's

Let me add on to this.

Anyone that thinks America just sends soldiers and takes over does not know the history of America. After WW2 America could have became like the USSR and just take over Western Europe just like how the Soviets took over Eastern Europe, but we not only gave the people of Western Europe back all their freedom, we help defend to this day from the former USSR and now Russia. We help rebuild every single country that was under American control. Compare what happened in Eastern Europe after WW2 and Western Europe. The difference is night and day. Compare the advancement of South Korea and North Korea who was being "assisted" with the help of the Soviet Union. There is no comparison. Japan attacked the Pearl Harbor and yes we did nuke them, but we help rebuild their country back and now it is only behind America in terms of GDP. Can you imagine what would have happened in Vietnam if America would have won the war? Would it be like Western Europe, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan Take your pick because I think they would be living good right now. Any war since the 1900 America had been there to help. Literally to help and not conquer. Iraq and Afhganistan hopefully will become like one of those countries mentioned and not what happned in Vietnam when America left.

sorry and ill prob get flamed, but yea if there is a draft i am out. Back to canada i go :D

same with me

Canada seems pretty cool :D

Yet another reason I'm glad I'm a girl.

I also don't think it's fair to flame people for not wanting to fight in a war. I'm not interested in fighting or war or any of it. Perhaps if someone attacked our shores I would feel differently. But that's how I stand now.

To answer the poll no I don't think there will be a draft. There seem to be plenty of people willing to enlist.
