Will these LED lights work?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
White Marine paint would handle the moisture better than most paint.

Can you recommend a brand and/or type? I see a lot of different types. Enamel vs alkyd (the alkyd route has the options for oil modified alkyd and just alkyd) and oil vs solvent base seem to be the two big ones I am a little confused with.

They haven't arrived yet. The downside of ordering from Hong Kong.

Ah. Well my tank is 6' long, so that 5 meter strip would make at least 3 lengths of lights. I just wonder how bright the white is and if it can be dimmed. Keep me posted on how it turns out. I would be very interested to see if just one unit will be enough for the entire tank.

Okay, so I have found someone selling their canopy for $40 and the pictures look pretty good. I am going to check it out on Tuesday.

Will the LED lights here (http://www.ebay.com/itm/5M-500CM-SM...-POWER-ADAPTER-/150804888346?var=450075942351) work in the canopy if it is only 7" off the top of the trim? I think I remember seeing someone post that LEDs need a specific height off the top of the water/aquarium, but I don't remember where I read that. Can anyone shed some light on that for me?

How long can you wait to get the lights? No use in both of us being guinea pigs lol.

As far as the height, You'll see pictures of all sorts of different heights around here. It is usually dictated by the fixture design. There is no standard.

Yours should be coming in any day now, right? I can wait up to 3 weeks, so if I am going to get those LEDs, I can wait a week before ordering so they will arrive within my 3 week time frame.

nah dont get those lights. if you're on a budget. get the flood lights off ebay. i got 3 20watts of those flood leds on my 135g and they look great. everything will cost u around $80-$100 max. just make sure u get the day lights at 6000k-6500k. and they would be perfect since u have a canopy. u can hide the lights. heres an example of the flood leds in a canopy.

not my vid but gives u an idea.

^ Those are LEDs too, just more expensive LEDs, and they're daylight. RGBs are the way to go for fish color, and they're stupid cheap if you cut out the retailer.
