yes 2-4 inches and then raise them up together so hopefully it will lower the chance of aggression?
Will this cichlid community idea work in a 55 gal?

yes well this is my plan we are hopefully moving into our new house in 2 months and the house has a 4 000 litre pond which the surface area isn't unmanageable so therefore I was thinking that I could convert it into a tropical pond then move any of my fish into there

well I have been thinking and was going to get rid of the pearl cichlid and one the flag cichlids and replace them both with a t-bar cichlid or is that a bad idea?
They may get that close to that big, they have long finnage. Mine can't be kept with plants because all they do all day is trash them.
Flags are better off with more than one. They can almost act like a schooling fish some times. Just get rid of the Pearl if u want.

I have a firemouth and don't think theres too much risk there. Even if you get an aggressive one those other cichlids seem like they they would easily be able to handle themselves against it. Plus they are very pretty,
