Will this red texas ever fade ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For now they don't look like they will fade. There's a member on here that had a male RT that didn't fade until it was 8". As for sex, it's hard to say.

Thanks guys and wow 8" guess I will have to keep them:) I got them at .75" and all looked the same but now all look different here are some pictures all from the same batch.uploadfromtaptalk1344563039307.jpguploadfromtaptalk1344563102668.jpg

The two fish here are siblings. One however, was of much better quality than the other lol. Both are unfaded. Idk wtf I was thinking when I sold the first one, I'm still kicking myself in the ass for it.

I still have this guy below(He's rockin his breeding dress lol). I let my friend raise him and well, my friend got too busy with school and kinda neglected this guy. Got him back as soon as my tanks started to free up. He's proven fertile as well, so I'm super stoked lol.

Water Very nice fish And fertile to! it's hard to find that how do you sex them? I am going to try and breed them FIRST TIME Not necessarily to sell them I just want some cool fishys. I think if it does work out I might be able to sell 1 or 2 of them? Could you help from pictures?
Thanks

Well, it's kinda hard to sex RT hybrids, but a rule of thumb, if it has a dorsal spot, it's most likely female. The bigger fish out of a batch of juvies tend to be males, smaller ones tend to be female. When they reach about 4" in size, thats when I think they're sexable.

I just got to see the first pic my phone was acting weird. That is one of the coolest fish I've seen. Have you seen it sense you sold it? Sorry I got off topic but had to say that. So hard to tell on the one that has faded 100%? Vent tube direction, shorter fins or is it because of the mixed up blood line you never know.

Buy a good number of RT frys(or flowerhorn or just purely almost any mid/large CA cichlid - not much of a difference), grow them all out. Sit and watch them grow almost every day for at least 1-3 hours a day without taking your attention off of them(pay attention to how they swim, their attitude aka body language, body shape, fin shape, head shape, and etc). You'll soon learn how to tell which one is female and which one is male without depending on any marking or venting. Use the surrounding of the fish including any fish in the tank to help you identify it as well.
In terms of fading, it may fade next week, it may fade when it hits 12 inches. I've known and seen 12" RT that aren't even mature yet and still acts like a hot head teenage who wimps out. Fading for RT can happen during its prime time. Only time will tell.

Nope, haven't seen it since. There's no guaranteed way to know if your fish will fade or not. It's just how genetics work.
