Will this sump be ok for my new 300g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi bomber is that jap mat stuff the mega expensive stuff?
And do you mean fill that whole area with the jap mat or sponge and get rid of the grog altogether or could i do half & half and what would i do in the first section,nothing or put my heaters in there and some of that white filter wool
Also i would prefer to use some grog as ive already got it,although it didnt cost much.

Cheers steve

I am not sure how much it costs. But if you already have your grog material (have not used this before), just use what you have. The jap mat should not need to get replaced if you keep up on cleanings.

I like to cry once and buy once. So I would save for jap mat myself and fill that alpha area with all jap mat with an egg crate at the bottom held up by cut pieces of pvc.

That first area should work out for your heaters just fine.

Hi bomber and pharaoh,would you double the width of the mech then and still have the other two sections or just do a larger wet/dry?

Cheers steve

My overall thought would be to put the heaters in the first chamber. You can keep the grog, but just lower it. You then install a drip plate over the grog where all of your filter media will be kept. The water is then forced to drip through the media. That's basically how mine is setup, just no so many chambers. No need to increase the size IMO

Hi pharaoh ,i thought you said i needed more mechanical,now you say i dont?
Or are you counting the drip plate as mechanical?
I had already got a drip plate over the second bio chamber in the pic?

Right so what im going to do is this,;

I will leave the first chamber as in the diagram,and put my heaters in there under the eggcrate,i will then take say 70% of the grog in the first chamber out and fill the rest with either the jap matting or pond filter sponges on top of the grog and i will leave the rest as is,i will try and put a sketch on sometime this week.will this be better?

cheers both of you for your input:headbang2
