Actually just a few fish and Malaysian snails to grab uneaten food in the breeder tank, I chose it because it is shallow and the plants could use a low wattage light source, just a shoplight with two 40 watt bulbs. As you can see from the sand in the 2nd photo it doesn't get a lot of debris build up, and the inhabitants of the main tank are messy eaters.
Here are some of the fish from the 100 gal tank, not super crowded, but not sparse by any means.

The top pic is Vieja bifasciata(Mexico), 2nd pic is a pair of Tilapia bythobates guarding fry(Lake Bermin, Africa), the black fish is Stomatepia pindu(Lake Barumbi umbo, Africa), with an Etroplus suratensus(India) in the background, the little yellow guy in the avatar is Amphilophus citrinellus(Nicaragua)
different lighting it appears orange

Okay, I was asked for my opinion, so here it is... I would have all the paneling on the stand going the same direction , otherwise it looks tacky.

Lol that was something diff i was thinking of... the stand to match my 240g will cost me the same money as the 30x72 one i got... :( so im going to Diy my stand for the smaller tank and just tack on some panels or get some prestained stuff and put it on.

LFS is setting me back 2 weeks on orders :(

which tanks come in 5 foot long and 24 or 18 wide? he said i should get a 4-5 and 18 wide tank to plant in... cuz my area i have to work with is about 144inch wide. Annhow looking over it i might have to lose a foot on the plant tank.

I do it using drilled holes and overflows. Mine is much smaller in scale and is not set up for good cosmetics.

Just as long your sump is the right size, go for it.

This weekend im going to start work on the sump. Silicone 1 only right? Im just going to copy someone idea... i have mine but the 60tank has bulk heads. So the two side chambers are going to be big... I had an idea.. should i run a airline under the Bio area? and keep a check valve and turn it on for cleaning? I a moving bed filter for my Pond, But the media was always under water... think this will help a little? or do most ppl just take them out and clean them when they have to be cleaned.

It looks like your picture will work out fine, but the question I have for you.
Why would you want to exchange water from your fish only tank to your planted tank? I think this setup would conflict water condtions in each tank its counting on what type of fish you keep in the 240g and what type of plants you will put in your smaller tank me I would setup up to differnt tanks and sumps
ps thanx for listening

Yes GE Silicone I does NOT say it contains the 'Bio Seal'...Your just messing with us aren't you :D.

I run an air line with an airstone under the bio-material to aeerate the media, if your wanting top use air to backwash and clean the material it's going to make a mess in an open sump :grinno:.

IT works on my pond filter. But that cuz it can all vortex out. I was thinking of making the main chamber of the sump have a slanted bottom so it all goes in one area and just vac it out from there... making cleaning just a little easy.

My pond vac was simple... it never needed clean of the media... just turn on the air line and drain that was all i had to do... attached a pic.i only did 2 chambers. i would love to do this again for my 240 but the smaller blue drum are harder to find now.
