Just to warn anyone that thinks its a good Idea to clean the outside of you glass with windex.

A roommate of mine thought he'd help me out by cleaning the outside of my tank with windex. Well that stuff sprays ALL OVER, and within an hour, even though he only held the windex like 2 inches from the glass when he sprayed it, all my fish lost all their color and were stressed beyond stressed. some of it obviously found its way into the tank.

I didn't lose any fish....luckily....but it was scary seeing all the fish such a dull color.

Just did it to grandma's 30g....:wall: :wall: :wall:

That's why I spray the cleaner on the towel and not on the tank.

thats an idea.........I really dont know why i have not ever done that.......thanks:)!!

many years ago, I had a 45 gallon under a window. The housekeeper had a friend come along to help out. The friend sprayed glass cleaner with ammonia all over the window. I was at work at the time. Anyone left a glass of milk out until it seperates? The water in the tank was in three different layers by the time I came home. One layer consisted of slime coat and scales from the many fish that were in the tank. It was absolutely horrible. Now I use a mild vinegar/water mix on a rag to wipe my tanks. Fortunately I now live alone, so I need not worry about someone else accidently causing harm.

I use Windex, but I spray it on the towel or napkin that I use to clean the glass.

yeah yeah the whole spray on the towel thing. That is what I started doing but I generally just use water and a lot of drying. I just didn't want to risk anything after that little mishap.

good times good times.
