Just a standard wall switch.

could be a defective switch or mabye it is a "3way" switch. A 3 way sw would not have the words "on" or "off" and will have 3 places to terminate wires on the back, not including the ground terminal(green screw). A standard swich will have just 2 places for wire termination, not including the ground screw.

How are the ballasts wired?

I am wondering if the large guage wire is causing a feedback if you will and causing the circuit to trip. Or is there a bare wire touching another wire which is causing the circuit to trip. (Just shotgunning everything that comes to my mind)

a large guage won't cause that. I'm betting on it being wired wrong

try to make a quick diagram in paint. A picture is worth 1000 words.

Me too I''m going to pull the switch and see where I couldve gone wrong

Seems as if the problem is in the switch, but it could be that it is wired wrong. Can you tell me about the switch as described in the previous post. Also you should only be switching the black wire.

Here is my very rough diagram of the wiring. Hope this helps. The last part is the 3 prong plug

You're switching both hot and neutral. dont run anything but the black wire through the switch.

So do I just cut the ground to the wire cover or do I ground it to the switch box? What do I do with the white wire?
