100% Agree with gangster here in staying away from live... There are cases though where young cichla won't eat anything but...I also don't agree with starving a young cichla... good way to lose it.. But if you HAVE too, feed it using the method I mention above, for only a few days then move into cutting the feeders in half and teaching them to eat cut baits, then moving into pieces of shrimp / krill than into pellets.. IMO

I found out the best way to feed your bass at that size is to use ghost shrimp then to krill or what have you. Starving them at that size will for sure kill them given that small bass have a higher metabolism then when they are 5". I see no reason why you shouldn't feed them rosy reds as long as you quarantine them first.
