That is a tragic loss, I feel for you and your fish.

Does the fish die due to low levels of oxygen when filter is off?

Yes they can...that might of been the main cause of death there....I keep a couple of air stones in my tank just for that reason....

(7) 9"-10"-peacock bass.

OUCH!!!

That sucks bro, really sorry to see that :(

damn, that is horrible.I'm surprised it happened so fast.

I think when a filter is unplugged for any length of time, not only is the current waste unfiltered but all the existing bacteria turns bad.

It's strange - sometimes fish are amazingly tough, and sometimes surprisingly sensitive.

WOW, I just almost had the same happen to my 125 just yesterday, the switch flipped while I was at work, and THANK GOD my B/F came home and went downstairs....The tank was already at 70 degrees, and he said they were breathing really hard. I would have lost my Ind Tiger, my Tiger Oscar (of 6 years) and my plecos (a vampire, and a regular) I think my Bichirs would have been fine, but MAN that really sucks....

I would get your Aro mounted! See my avatar, thats my 27" Black Aro....

Many condolences on your losses.....

Jen :(

Dang I turn off my filter almost everynight and turn it on when I wake up. None of the fish are breathing hard though. Actually, I dont even have a filter, its just a powerhead.
