wolf cichlid.............

Game fish are measured TL. So a 1 meter SL emperor, would be quite a bit bigger than 40" TL. Or as measured by the IGFA.

does not matter the topic has nothing to do with the worlds largest cichlid. male dovii max out in the wild at about 28". they are very aggressive and you should only house a breeding pair in 1 tank with a divider on hand. if you put 2 males in together 1 might make it out alive but he will be scared for life. we are here to help, learn or teach not criticize. but on the other hand if you thought they got 6' long why would you put them in that small of ... nevermind. your buddy is very very wrong. google parachromis dovii for more info.

This reminds me of the arguement about the world's 'largest' snake ...

The longer retic python or the heavier anaconda ...

Do we go with the longer Emperor, the heavier Tem or do we figure out some complex mathmatical formula to give both length and weight equal parameters and thus can compare?

Or concede it's a silly arguement, drop 'largest' from the vocabulary, and either use 'longest' or 'heaviest' ...
It's debatable about which is the largest, but I do believe largest=heaviest=most massive, we don't consider giraffes to be the largest land animals because they are the tallest

Largest will always equal heaviest. Is the largest fish a 15 foot long, 400 pound arapaima? No, it is a 600 pound, 9 foot long mekong catfish.

that's what i said, but by debatable i meant which species is larger the emp or the tem

Well larger, of course the tem will be much heavier. But length wise is debatable as I have never seen an emperor in a pic larger than 32" although some sites say 40"...

i read on cichlidae that an emp can reach 1.3meters so that would weigh more than a tem
