i think your all right looking around it does seem the fish are way over priced, i wil try and haggle tomorrow, if i can get him down to £90 for the 2 then i will go for them otherwise i will go for another deal i have just worked, i have been offered 3 x 6-8" mala's in part exchange for my rhomb £60 or 4 for £90, wot do you lot think? i am so glad i asked about the price i was paying other wise it would have been day light robbery:eek:

Still be a good site seeing 3 or 4 wolf fish together, dont kmow how long for but if keep them well fed u never know

question how long will it take them to get to over 10"?

kane from what I understand there are quite a few varients or subspecies of malabaricus, that vary in looks, size, temperament etc. I had a brazilian mal, they have green aroiund the eyes and mine was very shy. Could be brutal, but was shy, inactive and not overly aggressive.

And these variants vary in size too like I said, I've heard of mals topping out about 12-14 inches, or even growing to around 24 inches, almost aimara sizes. A swedish member on here had a 2 foot malabaricus.

So it all depends on the specimen really, I'd say I found the growth rate to be somewhat average and steady on my wolf, certainly not as fast as an aro or snakehead.

Kane, do you know from where they were collected? I was able to keep peruvian and brazilian mals together for quite some time. With plenty of food and space, these variants can reach 1' in a year quiet comfortably. But variants from Goias and Pantanal can exceed 30", so eventually mals must be solitary.

Thank you so much oddball, your words of wisdom are much appreciated:thumbsup: so its ahead i go then this weekend,

I am running an 1200 lph external filter, 1200 power head and another 700, is this enough? I have been thinking of getting rid of the Juwel filter and adding an externa. The 700 Powerhead is running the juwel filteration, be honest with you all i think the Juwel filtartion is rubbish as is the Lid.

Oh hands i think i will invest in a strong net and as soon as i get the wolves i wil post pics.

Thanks again

Regards

The Juwel tanks (I take it you have a Rio 450) are nice but the filter systems crap. I've a 400 which i added an external to. I'm planning to keep the external & use for a biological purpose only and thinking of replacing the Juwel filter and adding an internal Tunze unit (these are bloody powerful). Remember as well at the momonet on a number of sites you can pick up Fluval X5's for around £130.

Hi mate

yes the standrad filter is rubbish i am running two power heads and a penn-plax cascade 1200 external filter, these are excellent i would recommend these over Fluvals, i paid £85 for this on ebay, you can get a bigger size 1500, they also have smaller ones, i have had the new fluvals and i dont think the build quality is good, the old filters werer solid still have 2 as back ups.
