wolf fish keeps hurting itself

my new mala started doing this last night, it will point its body straight up and just swim rapidly fast up and then bang its face on the top of the fish tank, now his mouth is all messed up, what can be the reason for this, seems like hes trying to commit suicide or something

ive heard of them doing this on a few occasions.
most of the time it stops after a while.
could be water quality or aggression.
or just no reason at all.

it can i just change the water also 2 days ago, and water issues to me is never a problem, i make sure my fish are always in prestine water

checked and everyting is fine, i feel bad because he keeps banging itself, ive kept a wolf a year ago for about 4 months but sold it due its aggression but never had problems like this

Is there anything dangling above the tank? Maybe wipe down the top of the tank. Maybe it sees something it wants to eat.
