Your red swims a lot? My common seems to chill behind this piece of slate. I used the slate to 'hide' my bubble wall, he found enough room to hide. I seen him out for a few seconds. Or he hides inside my clear tube i added for my BGK. The lady i got him from said she hated feeding him since he was very aggressive.

My Red is very active, on par with my Senegal Bichir in terms of activeness.

My common doesn't move much (during the day), usually just hangs out till feeding time.
