WolfFish Guide?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
YES definitely keep a strong lid on I didnt have a cover for about two weeks and I literally watched mine jump out about 4 times in those two weeks. mind you I had 3 together. I remember waking up at 3 am by accident and heard a thump and saw my large wolf crawling across the floor. I lost my little one when I put him in a 30 gal nurse tank and ran to a friends house because I forgot the lid and came back he must have just out right when i walked out the door.

OK my experience with wolfs (malas) is they are very cool to look at and great fish to own. they are hardy fish, ppl say a 30 gal for a wolf is good because they are very inactive. but thats because they are nocturnal and actually move alot at night so personally I think a 75 minimum for one. I had 3 medium sized wolfs in a 75 for about 2 months and had extreme agression so I had to upgrade to a 125 thinking they would have more room and less aggression. It did lesson the aggresson a bit but not enough. I had to seperate them because they are very powerful and cause alot of damage with one bite. so for there own safety i split them.

Some thing you should know is that they are very inactive and can be disappointing to some. not me but friends came over and would always be like bro your fish never moves. ofcourse some are different then others and are more active but thats rare. feeding time is very cool. they attack the food with such force and speed that always changed my friends mind about them. but research there diet on here just use the search button. never live food . mine loved tilapia fillets and shrip fillets. there are alot of pics on here . same thing just use the search button . theres actually not to many pics on google. and alot of drift wood they seem to love hiding in the cuts. good luck.

and by the way , Channa really knows his S**T. lol

very informational thx

what would bring you to say this? if he has an appropriate sized tank, appropriate filtration and is willing to maintain an appropriate maintenance schedule what would make this fish not suited for him? :screwy:

What I'm trying to say is try to sit down and decide on which fish you really like to keep. Do a bunch of research on them and see what their minimum requirements are.

No offense but you pretty much get a piece of every single sale a vendor has or every "fever" the board has.

You are a very knowledgeable kid and I admire you for that. You are also one lucky kid 'coz your parents support you all the way with your hobby.

Now think it over, decide on what you want and go from there. You can't like one fish, buy it, and then sell it two weeks down the road because you no longer like it or because it is kicking your other fishes' behind.

While its true that some adults does that but there is nothing better than learning the right things while you are young. It also helps you from the headache of selling your fish.

Just my .02.
