They can get bigger than that too. Mine is about 11-12 inches right now.
 
Fantastic pickup! I love it when my LFS does that for me. I'm always over there. I'm more than a "regular" too. lol I get free plants all the time and good deals on fish.

he will get much larger than 12 inches but their growth slows at 10 inches. As for getting it for $4.99 congrats but i got my mala for $15. where did you get in from in NY. This happened to me with my ck and i told him the price was wrong and payed the extra $5. Mine is doing ok with tankmates but fights break out here and there
 
I got a big old bag of ghost shrimp the other day for 41 cents. lol I'm not sure exactly how it happened, but against my better judgment, I said nothing and took the deal.
 
i payed 15 for my old mala but my new mala i payed $30 and it is by far a better fish. different vendors i guess
