Woman Swims from Cuba to Florida!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I should point out this is her 4th attempt at this swim in 30 years....and other people have completed the swim using a shark cage for protection. Problem is the cage creates a draft, obviously aiding the swimmer

Exactly what I was gonna say.

That and that this feat is so incredible for a woman of her age that it completely blows my mind.

I remember a girl who had no arms passed her elbows and no legs passed her knees swim somewhere around Alcatraz or something. they had a cage around her with a boat that pushed the cage as she swam to protect her from sharks and what not

pretty crazy stuff

and +1 on not even enjoying a 100 mile drive let alone swim, lol

I'm impressed that she stuck with her dream despite her advancing age. Her first attempt was in 1987 or something crazy like that. Then to try it 3 more times despite previous failures. True sports hero

How can somebody go on vacation somewhere and not spend money? No food, drinks, sleeping arrangements?

Do it Bear Gryll's style, jump off a plane mid way there, and then parachute down... after landing, start building your own shelter and hunting / gathering food...

Oh and make sure to start planning your exit strategy since you'll need one of those too... unless you plan on doing it like this woman and swimming back 100+ miles...

But seriously, hats off to this woman being able to pull off such a feat... i know i could never do it...

Totally Amazing... especially for her age.

I think he is referring to the difference in venomous and poisonous. Which would be the delivery method.

Sorry to jump all the way back to page two... yes, this is what I was getting at. Swimming in jellies does suck down in the Keys right now. Right now, there are moon jellies so thick it looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. We did a couple of dives in the Keys for FTK about two weeks ago. Coming up we looked horrible - like we had been in a bar fight. Any exposed skin was red and swollen from the venomous tenticles. The first 6-10 ft of depth was jelly on top of jelly. I wish I had a pic.
