The majority of fish keepers are male. It is kind of like a male thing, like keeping reptiles and stuff like that.

Funny, when I was in High school I used to keep reptiles, snakes, and frogs. Meh

NOT trying to bash women, it's just the usual "Women are from Venus and Men are from Mars" thing.

Yeah well Venus is way better then mars. I will say this some women are flat out crazy too.

I find my husband needs the same amount of attention I do maybe even more. He has told me flat out I spend too much time on my fish. He had me in tears once because he made me sound like a bad mom with a crazy adiction to fish keeping. All because I wanted to upgrage my 55gal to a 80gal. We talked it out and got over it. Now he even has given the ok for me to get a 150 or 180 gal. They come around over time.

I don't think is has anything to the sex it all depends on the persons involved. Some get it and some don't I honestly am glad my husband is understanding but not into fish. Because if he was I would be broke with tanks on every wall of our home. He keeps me thinking stright. :naughty:

My girlfriend likes to look at them but doesn't like to do the work, she enjoys feeding them some too. I take her with me to the fish store and she feels involved and likes to see all the cool big fish like arowanas, but her favorite are the little colorful ones. I let her pick out fish from time to time and it makes her happy. She picked out my firemouth and also the little EBJD i currently have growing out, so I guess I have no complaints from this aspect. She keeps me in check from not spending WAY too much money, but lets me mostly do what I want fish related.

Sweetness, nighttouch! You win with keeping her happy with the mollies, especially if you need to feed your monsters...ready supply of food right there :P She'll never miss one or 5 of them :D

Thats actually quite funny because one of the mollies had fry last month and the senegal that was in that tank to start his grow out ate them all. She was sad until the other pregnant one popped after I moved the bichir. I have mollies EVERYWHERE lol.

LOL! Mollies became an infestation in one of my community tanks many years ago. Lasted till someone added a tire track eel to the tank. Went from having hundreds to 3 lucky survivors in about a 2 week period, if i remember correctly.

I (a woman) actually got my fiance into the hobby, and sometimes I think he is more into it than I am sometimes.

It started when I first moved in with him, and he went to Tx for 2 weeks for his work. I, not knowing much of any fish other than goldfish- went to the store, got a 5 gallon tank and a goldfish.. he came home.. seen it, and goes "oh.. that's a cute little fish."- then we got a second GF.

The obsession then moved into a 30 gallon, and then a 150 with koi.. and now we have 11+ tanks, all with in really a year.

Frank and Paul (the goldfish) started it 3 years ago, but we didn't get really into it until last summer (2010).

I used to do all of the maintenance work, and now that's something that he does. I only do tank compatibilities, medications, weekly fish exams (yes, I examine my fish).. etc..

We are always talking about fish, and I wouldn't lie by saying that it saved our relationship.

I'm also lucky... because he always pretty much finds a way for me to get what ever fish/tank that I want. :)

For girls who ain't into fishkeeping, the problem is either money or fish.

They love guppies and all the other beautiful cute fish like angels
But show them a large piranha or some MONSTER fishes, they would hate it.

Guppies are food, nothing more. I love them, but most especially when they are in the gullets of my monsters.
I am woman. RAWR!!

My GF loves the tanks. She won't do any work with them, but loves looking at them. I think the women that do't really like them are the ones worried about:

a) space
b) $$$$

mostly B.

You got that right haha! My GF is like yours. She loves looking at my tanks, but doesnt touch them(she helped me cleaned it twice :D). She actually tells me to get more fish because a fish is lonely. We went to petsmart and got her a red devil because she said my blood parrot was lonely and needed a husband haha. We named him Mr Bombastico. As long as I let her do what she likes to do she lets me do what I like to do which is golf and this hobby :) She respects what I do and I give her the same back.
