Wood Digesting Pleco and Sponge filter

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am so glad I took the time to read through this thread. That being said I didn’t read every single word/link, so if some of this has been covered: my apologies.

So I’m one of those guys who will catch fish, kill fish, and eat fish any day of the week. My dogs and cats eat fish as well. My fish eat fish. I breed fish just to feed to my other fish. The dogs, cats and Pleco fish all chew wood.

Except for my prize Oscar it is pretty hard for me to cry about the feelings of a fish.

I keep four aggressive cichlids In a tank with lots of defensable structure. I move it around like a chess game every week when I clean the tank. I think it keeps them from being boring. They have to figure out the new “ropes” frequently.

Just so the pressure never really comes off of this little society, I also keep three Plecos and an upside down cat. You can see the biggest one, bottom front & center here.

I had big expensive Bogwood in this tank as decoration, but it was ruining the pH.

So after I took the wood out of the 125, I found that the Pleco’s were just fine; but eventually I noticed that they were doing this to my sponge filter.

Look at the dark guy on my albino. He is sucking it down.

I hate the bloody time limit on editing.

There are typos in the post above I cannot correct. They were dictation errors on my cell phone where it automatically changed words.

I didn’t notice when I hit the post button.

This is the one thing that I absolutely hate about MFK. Sometimes it takes a long time to make a post & a long time to proofread it, and only a very short editing time is given once it is online.

Perhaps this is done to prevent abuses.

What I attempted to say in my last post was the the pleco had a dark gut and it was visible through his albino skin.

This damn phone just changed my words again . . . it came up with the correct words the first time, and then it changed into something else after a second or two.

Fortunately I caught it this time before I pressed the button, because the error had already scrolled off screen.
