Wood or no wood

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Put the coral in last night. I will check it tonight when I get home. I have some new ones on the way so I want it to be perfect.

You dont want to add to much at once so keep an eye on it. You dont want any huge swings in ph so it would be best to let the tank settle for a few days before you add or remove any coral. Test 2 or 3 times a day and keep a note of the readings.

sorry for interrupting your convo I was wondering... ive heard many things..driftwood raising ph.. driftwood lowers ph....driftwood screws with your hardness, driftwood bumps nitrites..bumpes nitrates... WHICH IS IT!! i really looove the look of it been wanting to get some just didnt know exactly what it does to the water! Sorry if its posted somewhere in front of my face i still am a newb :D

Hey ziggy2... let us know how it goes.. i'm thinking about adding driftwood to my tank too!

ohhh ok so it loweres the ph right on thanks. my ph is pretty low for my fish ill just keep it woodless :D it may be a tad off this topic, and sorry but whats the best way to drop my nitrates besides doing 25% water changes, that didnt seem to work. my fish are all acting fine, but still its too high.. thanks again

DasArab is correct dw def lowers ph. I have alot and it brought me down to 6.0. I used the coral in my sump and raised it to 7.0. I did it over a period of about a week so I wouldn't stress the fish. Just like he said add a reasonable amount and check it the next day and add more until you get it where you want. Just make sure when you get in where you want it you keep it consistent. That IMO is more important that the actual ph.

If you like the wood in there leave it. PH, hell most of the africans you have were probably bread in fish tank with around 7 ph, I don't worry to much about ph. Unless someone that has a tank thats to lazy to do water changes then you have to small water changes to keep shocking the hell out of the fish. If you do weakly water changes you wont have a problem.
