WORKED TO DEATH!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I hear that, I work at a small school, you may think teacher have it easy... but you are wrong... i would most likely be dead if my fish did not relax me...or a student may

grew up in a house where my parents worked 10-15+ hour days.... my momwould get 80 hrs a week sometime... working 10+ hrs in a day is normal in the us...

work in the resteraunt biz if you want bad hours. my friend works 12ish hours a night 7 nights a week. i work 6 nights a week but i have 2 jobs around 12-13 hours a day total.

wow, what about teaching takes up most of the time?

my dad works 10 hours a day

and he doesnt even get paid for those extra 2.....that legal?

my manager does the same thing, he works 11-8 but get out about 9-10 pm.

managers/supervisors and the like are paid based on salary. California law allows that, absolutely legal. They do not get paid hourly. They get a based salary which is a lot more than what an hourly person can make.

Overworking is very dangerous especially if your body cannot rest or regain strength before working again.. At the first moment of serious fatigue I would stop and rest

you are right... the body can only have a certain capacity. that is why heart problems are the leading cause of death. Fatigue, stress and more contributes to the majority of health issues diagnosed in hospitals... it is like high blood pressure.. a silent killer.

if you like what you are doing then i would say go for it. but your body needs to rest... give it time to regenerate. people work hard to earn the position they are aiming for. look at it this way, you can work 8 hours productively or work 10-12 hours with no result (so OT does not rewards equally without any results). I am not saying people are lazy and just try to get the extra 2 hours on OT, but some do. They come to the office, get a newspaper and coffee sit down read and 1 hour has passed they start working... morning break comes then they extend it a few more minutes, and so forth.

if he died due to work.. we can't do anything about it. don't forget.. different culture has different working expectations. Some say workers in the US are lazy, some say they are good, and some don't mind at all.

My dad is a professor, and he gets some pretty rough hours, especially since he is a stage design prof. He has to stay after alot to help set up stages and lighting, run rehearsals, and tear down sets. I'll most likely end up becoming a teacher if I don't et a job designing guitars. And if that fails, mortician (good pay rates).

I work alot.

Japan has one of the lowest job change percentage worldwide. In fact it is looked down upon to leave a job. I believe their nation average is 7-10years per company. While here in the states its within 2years. That guy must of been very dedicated to his career to take upon such a position. BUT to say it is his job that caused his death i feel is stretching it. Sure stress and long hours can take its toll on the body. But it is the responsibility of the individual to fully recoup or de-stress while not at work. Otherwise he/she is not fit for the position. Rule #1 of nature..... only the strong survive.....

From 20-23 my work schedule was like this
Sunday 8am-8pm= 12hrs
Monday 12am-8pm= 20hrs
Tuesday 12am-8pm= 20hrs
Wednesday 2am-8pm= 18hrs
Thursday- Off
Friday 12pm-8= 8hrs
Sat.- Off
Total= 78hrs a week

Me and the 3other people who ran the company were all in our twenties and had to take medication for heart pains. Falling asleep on the toilet was common:ROFL: Anyways it was what i had to do to make a living.
Today i work 7days a week and stress levels are at a all time high... I make it a point to de-stress and keep fit if i want to produce at a high level.... Which is why i joke around so often....

I see too many people who are "boss haters"... unlike in Japan the pressure of staying with a job is not as high here... The nationwide average for "work productivity" is less than 20%...... which means you are wasting your bosses money right now if your at work.... In America i feel there is no such thing as employees....... from the janitor to CEO... we all exchange services for $$$.... how hard we work and how much $$$ we make is ultimately determined my ourselves.....

sorry i just had to get this off my chest..... carry on.....;)

My hubby works 80 to 90 hour weeks all the time.

He is an on-call heavy equipment/forestry equipment tech. He works Thanksgiving and Christmas. Many times he has slept in his service truck because he is 4 hours from home and 2 hours into the woods. We get calls at 3am from operators asking him questions about their machines.

It sucks. I wish he was home more.
