Remember, even after warning a costumer that a goldfish can reach 12 inches and they still want to stick it in a betta bowl... shut up and bag it.

LOL being as this is a business
refusing a sale is out of the question
Save your morality for when you own the place
The 'Right to Refuse Service to Anyone' does not apply to you bud

I never refused a sale working at PETCO but on numerous occasions voided the guarantee on a fish if there was absolute negligence. Luckily i had the management to back me up. They don't make their money from fish they make it from selling supplies.

what happen that caused you to miss your first day? Somethin about a ride? Did you let your coach or whatever that person is called know right away? you're off to a rough start lil bro.

it's great that you're looking ahead but if you're only working 3 hours, i doubt they'll let you work with the customers much. you'll probably be doing physical labor with very limited customer interaction. i would not randomly let someone work with my customers without going through all the employee training.

you're probably going to be doing stock...unloading pallets of merchandise and putting it in the right shelf, etc. Also, don't miss work, not having a ride is a terrible excuse to miss work IMO, because if you don't have a car, someone you know does, or get a cab, ride the bus, or walk if you aren't too far. Good luck!!

The first step to being a good worker is making it there, on time...or even 10 minutes early.

Dress how others dress. Khakis and a button down or polo shirt is the usual.

Do what you're told and stay on task. Tell your boss when you've finished what he's assigned you to do.

Treat customers with courtesy. Don't talk to them too much.

At the end of the day, ask your boss what you did well and what you could do better. Tell him - and demonstrate to him - that you're doing your best and that you give a darn.

Good luck,
Matt

the best piece of advice i can give you (or anyone) is whatever your doing, think of how it looks to your boss. If there is nothing to do, run in circles looking busy. If you cant think of anything to do, sweep the floor, even if it doesn't need swept. Or wipe the counter off, even if you did it 10 minutes ago. It might be a waste of time and effort, but your boss will see you "working hard." Also, always walk like your on a mission, even if you aren't. You could be walking across the store to go to the bathroom, but walk diligently like your in hurry for something important, You might be doing nothing, but its all about what it looks like to your boss(or more likely, bosses). This goes for everything else in your work life too. Blaming your not showing up, on your ride, doesn't look good. Remember, where theres a will theres a way. If you don't have a car, you should probably have a bicycle. You might have to leave an hour earlier but its better than not showing up

I dont necessarily agree with this. Sometimes it the right thing to do, but other times its not. A lot of bosses want someone that can think for themselves. Some bosses will get pissed if you bug them every 10 minutes saying "what do you want me to do now" To me, asking your boss what to do next is a last resort. But thats a case by case scenario. IF they give you 8 hours of work, its ok to ask for another 8 hours of work. If they give you 5 minutes of work, you should probably just start looking for something to do. Also, its always better ask what to do next, rather than standing around
