Working at the LFS ***AWESOME***

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I remember after getting out of the army years ago and starting at college, I took a job at a local pet store because I thought that I would need more to do than just being a first year engineering student. As it turns out my course load was enough to keep me out of trouble but I held on to the job anyway...

It paid minimum wage and had hugely inconveniant hours, especially over the holidays but the job had other benefits. I now had more than a hundred tanks to set-up and the numbers and types of fish were constantly changing. I had the opportunity to help others getting into the hobby understand the challenges and limitations they faced and I'm certain prevented a lot of folk from giving up the hobby in frustration which I think hapens all too often. I learned so much more about what I thought I already understood.

I also learned about small business and the art of balancing personal biase over products with the need to keep the sales coming in, ensuring the enterprise was healthy enough to pay my meager wages and be around for the next little guy/gal that wants to start a journey into theh hobby with a betta bowl.

I wish you all the best Bogwoodbruce! 'Tis a great adventure upon which you embark. Work hard and remain optimistic, and I guarantee you will be rewarded with much more than realize now.

I wish I could work at the LFS! I would be in Heaven! You go Bruce.

i was though the samething about working for a LFS. but then i realize, why work for them but not working for me. so i did it in my own backyard. a fish hatcherry..........breeding, feeding, raising, and selling with no boss could say a darn thing... hehehe.
cool thread...

I work at my lfs and its loads of fun. Its a family run buisness thing and im not even part of their family lol, but I do get a little over minimum wage and I get cost, which is great.

I tried to apply at one of my LFS but They just said "You look young" and didnt give me an application!

I'm going to get an apply at my other LFS though. Hope I get the job.

I've handed resume's at 6 pet shops and I havent recieved any good word from them. All because Im 14. *sigh*. Another reason is probably due to the fact that I'd have to catch the train to get there or ride a bike for a long time.

sorry bud, till you get a car, yer kind of screwd. no offense. is it legal to work that young by your local laws, in the states, you need your parents to go with you in some states ?

and yes, people older than you wont take you serious, just how it is, sorry...
